If Thursday night’s inaugural is any indication of what 2014 will look like, the members need to be prepared for a member-focused year under the presidency of Steve Brown.
Candidly, I had about 20 friends come to see me walk across the stage. They were all honest and said, “Once you walk, we’re out.”
After it was over, they were strangely still there. I asked them, “What are you still doing here?”
The overwhelming response was, “because this was awesome and like an entertaining show.”
So why was that the case? Steve Brown crafted a short, succinct program that had the member at the center. Many have the impression that an inauguration is about a person as a leader and celebrating him or her. Steve threw that impression out the window, bringing more than 100 “in the trenches” members onto stage to celebrate their mix in the NAR world.
The highlight for most of the audience was the profile video of several random REALTORS® named Steve Brown from around the nation. My personal favorite was fisherman/REALTOR® Steve Brown who threw the camera crew off the boat when he found out he wasn’t going to be NAR President.
Another unexpected highlight was Steve’s broker family back home in Dayton coming in via video from Irongate REALTORS®. The best line was from one of them congratulating Steve on becoming NRA (National Rifle Association) President.
At the end of the night, anyone who didn’t know 2014 President Steve Brown learned that he is a man who is all about the member and our concerns. Kudos, Mr. President!
