It was the summer of 1995 when a group of real estate agents from around the country met in person after chatting online in the old RE/MAX Compuserve Forum. We came together to share marketing ideas and explore the beginning stages of real estate technology. Many of our members were the first adopters of blogging and our early VOW websites were created before IDX and VOW rules were even in place. We didn’t know that what we had would a few years later be identified as a VOW website but we did know that we had a new tool that was exciting and innovative for consumers.
The CyberProfessionals still meet regularly and are made up of members from major franchises as well as home grown companies. For the past several years, we have held our two day meeting in the same city just prior to the NAR Conference and Expo. Our meetings are made up of each member presenting their “15 minutes of fame” plus “round the room” discussion topics. After the opening of the expo we meet to talk about our favorite booths and the technology we find there. Most of our members stay on for the full convention and many members have national committee obligations to attend as well as CRS, WCR, and other REALTOR® meetings.
Creating your own nationwide networking group is an excellent way to gain from the shared knowledge of others. While CyberProfessionals members first met online, we have found sharing in person has enormous benefits. As we return for our fourth meeting in San Francisco, we are happy to still be together after all these years.
